Isaac’s Fixation with Buttons
Isaac has an amazing fixation with anything that has buttons - but he’s especially intrigued by computers. It is basically impossible to even use our computer when Isaac is awake. If he catches you at the desk or with a laptop, he demands to be on your lap, and holding the mouse or banging on the keyboard (or both). It was cute at first, but now it’s just a bit of a challenge to deal with.

I can often get away with giving Isaac the wireless keyboard and mouse that I normally connect to my laptop while I work on the “real” keyboard and mouse. He’s usually content for 5-10 minutes this way, but eventually starts reaching for the real keyboard.

When I turn off the computer, Isaac starts saying “Uh-oh,” and looking for ways to turn it back on again. With my computer, he’ll go for the monitor. With a laptop, he actually knows where the power button is, and will move your hand if you try to cover it.

All in all, he’s still a great kid, and just naturally curious. I should count myself lucky that he doesn’t stuff every visible thing in his mouth or up his nose. Hitting buttons isn’t the worst obsession out there!
